{"id":1,"date":"2012-09-21T21:39:47","date_gmt":"2012-09-21T21:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shared4.info\/buildingcodes\/?p=1"},"modified":"2015-07-05T19:01:50","modified_gmt":"2015-07-05T19:01:50","slug":"fire-safety-drawings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shared4.info\/buildingcodes\/fire-safety-drawings\/","title":{"rendered":"Preparation of Fire Safety Drawings"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"float: right; margin-left: 20px; min-height: 350px;\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\/\/ <![CDATA[\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-8916618953552981\"; \/* large rectangle - text *\/ google_ad_slot = \"5148735058\"; google_ad_width = 336; google_ad_height = 280;\n\/\/ ]]><\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<div>As I am normally the one who is tasked to prepare &#8216;Fire Safety&#8217; drawings for our <a href=\"http:\/\/swaqatar.com\">company<\/a>, I made here a guide or procedure on how we are usually preparing Fire Safety drawing for submission to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moi.gov.qa\/site\/english\/departments\/CivilDefence\/index.html\">QCDD<\/a>. Note that this is just a simplified guide on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moi.gov.qa\/site\/english\/departments\/CivilDefence\/index.html\">QCDD<\/a> basic requirements (based on my experience) and was intended to help anyone who is also involved in fire safety planning specially here in Qatar.<\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<blockquote><p>Update: In Doha\/Qatar, their Civil Defense Department have already issued &#8216;<a title=\"Guidelines for Fire Safety Plans\" href=\"https:\/\/shared4.info\/buildingcodes\/guidelines-for-building-plan-bp-submissions\/\">Guidelines for Building Plan Submissions<\/a>&#8216; where most of their current requirements are enumerated therein.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Procedures on the preparation of &#8216;Fire Safety&#8217; drawings:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calculate Occupant Load. Refer to NFPA 101 Table 7.3.1.2 (you can download the form I am using <a title=\"Occupant Load Calculation Form\" href=\"http:\/\/shared4.info\/files\/OL-calculation.xls\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate the Diagonal Distance in the plan\/s and show that the remoteness or the distance between Exit Access (Stairs) is more than 1\/3 of the diagonal distance (if the building has sprinkler system).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If there is an OTS (&#8216;open to sky&#8217; shaft) with windows or openings, make sure that the distance between any of the openings is at least 5-m. If openings are not avoidable, you need to provide these openings with automatic fire rated shutter or any similar protection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><del>If the project is high-rise building (more than 28-m in height), indicate or provide Fire Stop Lobby<\/del>.<\/li>\n<li>If the project is high-rise (more than 36.6-m), provide a minimum of two &#8216;Fire Access Elevators&#8217;, each having a minimum 1590 kg capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Provide &#8216;Command Center&#8217; Room if;<br \/>\n&#8211; If the project is high-rise<br \/>\n&#8211; If the project will be equipped with voice communication system<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Check Door Swing Direction.<br \/>\n&#8211; Swing out if used as exit access (most common error is on ground floor).<br \/>\n&#8211; Swing out if the room or area has &gt;50 occupants.<br \/>\n&#8211; Provide Panic Hardware if the room or area has &gt;100 occupants.<\/li>\n<li>Show the Exit Discharge (capacity can accomodate at least 50% of occupant loads)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>If the project or building has basement floor, provide &#8216;Interruption Gate&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Check location of &#8220;Fire Pump Room&#8221;, it must have &#8216;direct access to outside&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Show that the Number of Stair\/s and Stair Widths is more than enough for it&#8217;s required exit capacity. (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfpa.org\/assets\/files\/2011%20FLSC\/2011FLSCCoteSizingArrangingMeansOfEgress.pdf\">check this NFPA reference<\/a>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate fire rating of the walls and doors required.<br \/>\n&#8211; Start with Vertical Openings like shafts, staircases, etc. (staircase wall fire ratings shall be 2-hours if &gt;4 stories, 1-hour if &lt;4stories) and (staircase door fire ratings shall be 90-minutes).<br \/>\n&#8211; Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/shared4.info\/buildingcodes\/?p=131\">Occupancy Separation Requirements<\/a> for other wall\/s fire rating.<\/li>\n<li>Show location of Access Panels, Fire Extinguishers, Internal and external hydrants and hose reels\/cabinets, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Choose and Show applicable &#8216;General Notes&#8217;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicate all the Essential Fire Safety Legends.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>On Building Section drawings:<br \/>\n-Include standard &#8216;wall-slab&#8217; (downloadable) detail connection. Also provide Detail if there is curtain wall used or similar.<br \/>\n-Show ceiling void heights.
