Project : Ulubelu Unit 3&4 Geothermal Power Plant Project
Project Description
The Project involves the development of well clusters, Steamfield Above Ground System (SAGS) and a power plant. The steam extracted from the geothermal wells will power a geothermal power station with an output capacity of 110 MW, made up of the two 55MW units, referred to as Units 3&4.

Project Overview
The Project will be developed by Pertamina Geothermal Energy (PGE), a subsidiary of the Indonesian national oil company PT Pertamina (Persero). The Project involves the development of well clusters, Steamfield Above Ground System (SAGS) and a power plant. The steam extracted from the geothermal wells will power a geothermal power station with an output capacity of 110 MW, made up of the two 55MW units, referred to as Units 3&4. PGE applied for a grant through the World Bank to contribute to the cost of initial development of the Project. This work includes the preparation of an international-quality Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA).
KEY FACTS
The plant is located in Lampung and has now four units operating at a capacity of 55 MW each, bringing the total up to 220 MW. Units 1 and 2 are operated by state-owned electricity firm PLN, with PGE supplying steam to these units.
Unit 3 and 4 are operated by PGE. Unit 3 started operations in July 2016 and Unit 4 in March 2017. The units add 2×55 MW (110 MW combined) to the plants at an estimated total investment cost of $397 million.
The now 220 MW of geothermal power generation capacity of the Ulubelu geothermal plants fuels now about 25 percent of the electricity demand in Lampung.
With the new units, Pertamina Geothermal Energy now represents around 35% of all geothermal power generation capacity in Indonesia.
At present, PGE contributes around 35 percent energy produced by all existing geothermal power plants in Indonesia. The overall installed geothermal power generation capacity in Indonesia is now at 1,698.5 MW, according to the Jakarta Post.
It is expected that by the end of 2017, the capacity will reach 1,858.5 MW with the additional units of Sarulla Unit 2 (110 MW) and the Sorik Merapi Modular Unit 1 (20 MW) in North Sumatra, and the Karaha Bodas plant (30 MW) in West Java.
