5.0 INTERIOR FINISH, CONTENTS & FURNISHINGS
5.1 INTERIOR FINISH
The interior finish shall be in accordance with the following –
(a) Interior wall and ceiling finish material shall be Class A or Class B in all corridors and lobbies and Class A in enclosed exits stairways; other spaces shall be Class A, Class B, and Class C
(b) Interior floor finish in exit enclosures shall be Class II
Class A interior wall and ceiling finish refers to flame spread index of 0-25, smoke development index of 0-450;
Class B interior wall and ceiling finish refers to flame spread index of 26-75, and smoke development index of 0-450;
Class C interior wall and ceiling finish refers to flame spread index of 76-200, and smoke development index of 0-450;
Class I interior floor finish refers to critical radiant flux, not less than 0.45W/cm2;
Class II interior floor finish refers to critical radiant flux, not more than 0.22W/cm2, but less than 0.45W/cm2.
Interior wall or ceiling finish that is required to be Class A, Class B, or Class C shall be classified based on test results from ASTM E 84, Standard Test method for Surface burning characteristics of Building Materials, or ANSUL/UL 725, Standard for Test for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials,
Interior walls and ceiling finish tested in accordance with NFPA 286, Standard methods of Fire test for Evaluating Contribution of wall and ceiling Interior Finish to Room Fire growth, shall be permitted to be used where interior wall and ceiling finish is required to be Class A in accordance with ASTM E 84, Standard test method for Surface burning Characteristics of Building materials, or ANSUL/UL 723, Standard for Test for Surface burning characteristics of Building materials.
Carpet and carpet like interior floor finished shall comply with ASTM D 2859, Standard test method for ignition characteristics of finished textile Floor Covering Materials or Floor coverings, other than carpet shall have a minimum critical radiant flux of 0.1 W/cm2.
